The 1911 .45-caliber Automatic, a classic if there ever was one. John Browning's design is one of the most popular firearms of all time. By the time the 1911 was revised in 1926, over 700,000 had been made. Those manufactured after June 25 of that year were designated 1911 A-1.
Here is an especially nice representation of the 1911, made by the Springfield Armory, with a 5" barrel and an overall lenght of 8 and 5/8 ". Even today, 90 years after it's debut, there are clubs, forums, websites and entire magazines devoted to the 1911.

You can distinguished the 1911 from the 1911 A-1 by the grip. Notice on this 1911 the back of the grip is perfectly straight. The A-1 has a slight curve to better fit the hand.
Did you know the 1911 had a predecessor? It was the 1910 Colt Browning Pistol.
