This is a German Imperial dress sword dating from the time after World War I. The proud but defeated German military called on fashion designers of the day to redesign the military uniforms. One of the results was these very ornate and well crafted swords. In the hand the grip feels much too small and the blade feels long and flimsy; definitely just for show.
